13. Picton, Marlborough Sounds and Nelson

Unsere Weiterreise startete am 23. mit der Fährenüberfahrt von Wellington nach Picton. Allein die ersten Blicke auf die Marlborough Sounds waren mit das Schönste, was wir während unserer Zeit hier bisher gesehen haben. Die meiste Zeit während der Überfahrt verbrachten wir also draußen und schossen über 100 Fotos (die fast alle gleich aussehen, aber das muss ja niemand wissen :p). 

We took the ferry to Picton on the 23rd and arrived in Picton late in the evening. The landscape we saw during the drive was one of the most beautiful things we've seen here so far. As the Marlborough Sounds emerged from the endless blue of the sea, we were in total awe! Most of the time we spent outside taking about a hundred photos of the beautiful mountains (I'm gonna be honest here, they all look the same).

Die Nacht verbrachten wir auf einem Campingplatz bei Picton, da wir ziemlich geschafft waren von der langen Fahrt. Der Platz war super schön, es gab freilaufende Hasen und blaue Vögel, die aussahen wie eine kleine Pfauen-Version. 
Am nächsten Tag machten wir uns auf den Weg nach Nelson, wo wir eine Nacht im Hostel bleiben wollten. 
Nelson ist sehr hübsch, sonnig und wir klapperten alle Sehenswürdigkeiten direkt am ersten Tag ab. Super viel zu sehen gibt es hier also nicht (obwohl, eigentlich doch, aber wir können leider nicht mal eben Bungeejumpen gehen :D)
Dafür wanderten wir abends zum "Centre of New Zealand" auf dem Botanical Hill, von wo aus man eine wunderschöne Aussicht auf Nelson, das Meer und die Berge hat. Südinsel, du hast uns jetzt schon in deinen Bann gezogen!
Die zwanzig Minuten Aufstieg war der Blick auf jeden Fall wert und auch wenn dieses Stückchen Erde nicht wirklich das Zentrum von Neuseeland ist (wäre ja auch zu schön gewesen), gab es hier hervorragende Fotomöglichkeiten. Meine größten Entschuldigungen gehen jetzt schon raus an Sina, die mehr als zwanzig Fotos von mir machen musste, bis ich endlich zufrieden war (mein Autofokus funktioniert im Dunkeln sehr, sehr schlecht) und die meine gesamten Belehrungen über den manuellen Fokus über sich ergehen lassen musste. Aber was tut man nicht alles für das perfekte Foto? Gut, perfekt ist es auch nicht unbedingt, aber ich bin halbwegs zufrieden.

After spending the night on a campground near Picton, surrounded by beautiful landscape, wild rabbits and peacock-lookalikes, we drove off to Nelson, where we were planning to spend one night.
Nelson ist really nice and sunny, but we visited all the attractions in one day already. I mean, there's more to see and do if you've got the money for bungee jumping, which we definitely haven't...
In order to see the sunrise from a different perspective, we decided to take the 20-minute hike to the "Centre of New Zealand" (which isn't actually the centre of NZ, it's just called like that) and enjoyed the view. Really spectacular and definitely worth the 20-minute effort- South Island, you've already casted your spell on us!
My deepest apologies go out to Sina- sorry for being such a perfectionist and having you take more than 20 photos of me while I was nagging about how easy it is to not get blurry photos :p
In the end, they didn't turn out to be perfect- but I'm quite satisfied with the results.

Zu den schlechten Nachrichten des Tages: Wir dachten eigentlich, nur eine Nacht in Nelson verbringen zu müssen, aber gestern entschloss sich Pingpong dazu, den Schlüssel nicht mehr zu akzeptieren und da wir nicht 24/7 mit offenen Türen herumfahren wollen, muss er Montag in die Werkstatt (Termin ist noch nicht gemacht, aber hoffen wir mal, dass man uns so reinlässt). Also noch eine Nacht hier gebucht, mal schauen, was wir mit dem heutigen Tag anfangen können. Ursprünglich wollten wir weiter zum Abel Tasman National Park, aber die Wassertaxen sind bereits ausgebucht. Von da aus sollte es zum Cape Farewell gehen und zum Wharariki Beach (ganz oben auf meiner Bucket List), allerdings ist die einzige Straße, die dorthin führt, bei dem Zyklon eingestürzt und ist frühestens in einer Woche wieder befahrbar. Also Pläne umgeworfen, dann müssen sowohl Abel Tasman als auch das Cape Farewell noch einige Wochen warten, bis wir wieder hier sind :( Wir fahren dann erstmal in die andere Richtung runter.

And we've got some bad news as well: Our inital plan was to spend only one night in Nelson and then head off to Abel Tasman and Cape Farewell, but our car had other plans. It decided to not accept the keys anymore (seriously, what is wrong with you) and we have to go to the garage tomorrow- because who wants to drive around with their doors open 24/7? We don't have an appointment yet, let's just hope they can squeeze us in. 
Also the plan to go to Abel Tasman was a bit far-fetched (first of all, the water taxis are already booked out for today haha) and the only road that leads to Cape Farewell is closed due to the damage cyclon Gita did to South Island. It's gonna be closed for at least another week, so we have to continue travelling down to Nelson Lakes National Park first and come back for Abel Tasman and Wharariki Beach at the end of our South Island trip :(
